DESCRIPTION:http://www.socalgrantmakers.org/ViewEvent.ashx?eventId=203011\n\n\nSCG Professional Development Series\nBeyond understanding how to read financial statements\, a critical element of a grantmaker’s job is to know the essential financial indicators of a healthy nonprofit. \n\nAssessing nonprofit financial health and integrating this knowledge into the grantmaking process provides grantmakers with important insights into the financial and organizational needs of grantees.\n\nFinancials 2.0 provides hands-on\, intermediate-level financial analysis training. Using real-life case studies\, this program examines the deeper funding and financial issues that impact nonprofit health\, especially during periods of major programmatic change and economic uncertainty. Participants will also engage in a lively discussion about what is required to build and sustain healthy nonprofit organizations for the 21st century.\n\nCoffee\, tea and light breakfast items will be provided.\n\nPresenter:  \n  \nBrent Copen\nSenior Manager\, La Piana Consulting\nBrent Copen brings more than 15 years of nonprofit experience to his role as senior manager at La Piana Consulting\, where he works to strengthen the sector by helping nonprofit organizations develop more robust financial management practices. He has presented hundreds of workshops to executive directors\, board members and funders and has consulted to a variety of nonprofits. Copen is a frequent guest lecturer at UC Berkeley’s Haas School of Business and UC Davis’ Graduate School of Management\, and has also worked as faculty at Teachers College\, Columbia University\, where he taught courses in resource allocation for nonprofit organizations. \n\nPrior to joining La Piana\, Copen was director of the western region at the Nonprofit Finance Fund and a projects manager for Youth Treatment and Education Court\, a juvenile drug treatment and education program. He also served as a senior fellow of the Robert F. Kennedy Memorial. Copen is currently a board member of Catalogue Choice\, a nonprofit that works to promote the adoption of sustainable industry best practices.
