Guiding Principles

Southern California Grantmakers believes in the mindful stewardship of resources that have been placed in the public trust. We value our responsibility to advance effective philanthropy to improve the quality of life for those we serve. To that end, we each aspire to:

  • Honor our philanthropic mission, reflect the intent of our donors and founders and recognize the changing diversity of the communities we serve – seeking to appropriately reflect these perspectives in our operations and grantmaking.
  • Strive for the highest standards of ethical behavior in all aspects of our work, fulfill our fiduciary and legal responsibilities, regularly review governance and organizational policies and maintain clear decision-making processes.
  • Build respectful, productive, and mutually beneficial relationships with grantees, donors, applicants, the public, government and all of our colleagues.
  • Ensure informed and responsible giving by providing ready access to operational and grantmaking information, periodically assessing the effectiveness of our work and sharing knowledge and best practices.
