Crossroads:

Innovating Practice, Building Community in a New Era

Nonprofits are facing greater challenges than ever before, contending with threats to their sustainability and a dramatic rise in the need for their services. Concurrently, the field of philanthropy is finding new and innovative ways to reinvent and revitalize its practices to meet these changing needs in the communities we serve.

As the sector is changing and evolving, so is Southern California Grantmakers. We are proud of our many achievements over this past year, including:

  • More than 60 programs and convenings--including a robust slate of conferences on family philanthropy, corporate grantmaking and special forums on public policy--to help our members decipher and navigate the current dynamic regulatory environment
  • More than 20 electronic communications--including quarterly calendars, e-newsletters and special announcements

  • Special print publications--Philanthropy in Health, Philanthropy in Southern California, California Philanthropy Toolkit, Trends in Family Philanthropy and SCG’s first printable Membership Directory

  • Strong member retention and the addition of 10 new members

  • Continued financial health and diversified revenue sources.

At this year's Annual Conference, taking place Monday, November 14th and Tuesday, November 15th, we will collectively explore the critical issues facing our sector and identify new and powerful strategies to address them. At our Members’ Meeting, we look forward to introducing SCG’s new board officers to our membership. Lastly, we would like to acknowledge--and thank--our outgoing chairman, Weingart Foundation President and Chief Executive Officer Fred Ali, who has played a pivotal role in the growth and development of our organization these past few years. An unswerving champion for a stronger nonprofit sector, he exemplifies effective philanthropic leadership in Los Angeles and beyond.
