Challenge and
Opportunity
Robert
F. Kennedy said, “All of us might wish at times that we lived in a more tranquil
world, but we don't. And if our times are difficult and perplexing, so are they
challenging and filled with opportunity.” As grantmakers, it is imperative that
we constantly seek out “opportunity” in order to better anticipate both the
needs and the challenges that lie ahead in terms of philanthropy’s role, impact
and effectiveness.
In
contemplating the trajectory of philanthropy--especially during this time of
continuing economic uncertainty and political change--we sought insights from
many of our sector’s most exceptional thinkers, practitioners, academics and
authors. The result is Southern California Grantmakers’ inaugural Signature Publication, “Looking Ahead:
The Changing Landscape of Philanthropy,” which provides a comprehensive window
to the future of grantmaking.
From
ways to generate positive change and master a crisis, to finding the
opportunity within times of great challenge and leveraging diverse grantmaking
styles, “Looking Ahead: The Changing Landscape of Philanthropy,” offers an
in-depth examination of the trends, strategies, innovations and influences that
will impact our current and future grantmaking.
I
hope you enjoy this first in a series of Signature
Publications from SCG. If you haven’t already received a copy, you may do
so my contacting us, via phone or email, or by downloading it from the Newsroom section of our website. We remain committed to providing our members and the
philanthropic community with an ever-richer and more valuable body of
knowledge, enabling us individually and collectively to effect meaningful
approaches to the challenges and opportunities that lie ahead.
