From our phones to our cars, everything around us is becoming “smarter.” How can emerging ideas and innovations make our philanthropy smarter too? CEOs, executives, and trustees of SCG member organizations are invited to join a high-level SCG Leadership ExChange on ways that funders can use information sharing, transparency, and collaborative workspaces to address “wicked” and complex social issues like poverty and homelessness.

In this conversation hosted by the Blue Shield of California Foundation and the Weingart Foundation, we will consider how emerging trends in open-source collaboration and collective impact can help answer critical questions for our philanthropic work here in Southern California:

  • Which philanthropic strategies are working and which should be changed?
  • Where are there information gaps between funders?
  • What lessons learned could lead to better or different solutions across the sector?
  • Are we ready for a cultural shift in the way we share information with one another and the broader field?

This breakfast conversation will feature an open discussion with Katya Fels Smyth, Founder and CEO of the Full Frame Initiative. Her work in the social sphere is pushing innovators to rethink the way we approach the world’s toughest social challenges. Ms. Fels Smyth will be joined by SCG members Fred Ali of the Weingart Foundation and Peter Long of the Blue Shield of California Foundation, who will share their perspectives on the development of smarter, more collaborative workspaces for philanthropy, nonprofits, and the social sector.

This event is open to CEOs, executives, and trustees of SCG member organizations.

We are pleased to host this gathering as part of our SCG Leadership ExChange series, which brings together small groups of members from across the region to discuss a range of topics that impact our work as grantmakers. Our goal for the series is to facilitate candid, action-oriented dialogue about important issues and solutions being sought by your peers.
