We're pleased to present a special CEO salon with philanthropic leaders hosted by Southern California Grantmakers and Sherry Lansing. We will be joined by special guest Janet Napolitano, President of the University of California and former U.S. Secretary of Homeland Security.

Ms. Napolitano was named President of the U.C. in 2013. A distinguished public servant with a record of leading complex organizations at the federal and state levels, she served as Secretary of Homeland Security from 2009 to 2013. Previously, she served as Governor of Arizona from 2003 to 2009; Attorney General of Arizona from 1998 to 2003; and U.S. Attorney for the District of Arizona from 1993 to 1997.

As Governor, Ms. Napolitano focused on education, from pre-kindergarten through public higher education. She was the first woman to chair the National Governors Association, and was named one of the nation’s top five governors by Time magazine. She now leads the University of California system’s ten campuses, five medical centers, three affiliated national laboratories, and a statewide agriculture and natural resources program.

President Napolitano will be interviewed by noted author, policy analyst, and communications specialist Matt Miller. Previously a columnist for The Washington Post, host of the syndicated public radio program, Left, Right & Center, and a senior fellow at the Center for American Progress, Miller now applies his broad policy and business expertise as Sr. VP at Capital Strategy Research, a unit of Capital Group, one of the world’s leading investment firms.

We are delighted to co-host this event with SCG member Sherry Lansing, former Chairman and CEO of Paramount Pictures.  Having been involved in the production and marketing of over 200 films, Ms. Lansing established The Sherry Lansing Foundation in 2005 to support cancer research, public education, and encore career opportunities. In addition, she serves on the Board of Regents of the University of California – and on the Boards of the Carter Center, the Entertainment Industry Foundation, the W.M. Keck Foundation, the Lasker Foundation, and Special Olympics World Games Los Angeles 2015.  Lansing is also the founder of the EnCorps STEM Teachers Program and a co-founder of Stand Up To Cancer.
