SCG members and members of the LA Partnership for Early Childhood Investment (@investinkidsla) invite you to a briefing on a proposed legislative solution by the County of Los Angeles to build a bridge to high-quality child care for foster children.

This voucher could help foster families bridge the timing gap between the moment of placement and the time by which they can access subsidized child care. The proposed solution includes (1) an emergency voucher used to pay for child care for up to six months for children ages zero to five, (2) the support of a child navigator to ensure a foster child’s access to child care in the short-term and long-term, and (3) trauma-informed care to meet the unique needs of abused and neglected children.

Wendy Garen, President and Chief Executive Officer, The Ralph M. Parsons Foundation, will provide a brief update on the need for emergency childcare and the crisis facing foster families across the County.

You will hear more details on the child care for foster children initiative and updates on the status of the proposed legislation from Genie Chough, Children’s Deputy to Los Angeles County Supervisor Sheila Kuehl. We will also discuss ways that we can all engage in collective action to ensure that this important proposal is passed and implemented.
