Join us to hear from the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (@samhsagov) and the CA Department of Health Care Services (@CAHealthCareSvc)  about key government initiatives to advance behavioral health in the Western U.S. as well as opportunities for philanthropy to leverage these strategies.

In August 2015, the federal government approved California’s request to use Medi-Cal funding to better organize substance use treatment services in coordination with primary care, mental health, and other health services.

We'll explore a variety of issues related to the waiver with Marlies Perez, Division Chief, Substance Use Disorder Compliance Division, Department of Health Care Services, State of California, and Captain Jon Perez, Regional Administrator, Health and Human Services, Region IX Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. Topics will include the following:

  • How will prevention be integrated into the proposed systems of care?
  • What are county leaders doing to engage in the waiver?
  • What gaps in funding are anticipated by state and federal funders for implementation?

Under this waiver, also known as the Drug Medi-Cal Organized Delivery System (DMC-ODS), select counties in California will be charged with establishing coordinated systems of care for adolescents and adults with untreated substance use disorders. The waiver will support significant integration of these services areas.

We hope you can join us to discuss opportunities to enhance prevention, care, and treatment for substance use and abuse.
