In 2011 The Atlantic Philanthropies created the KidsWell Campaign, which aimed to achieve universal children’s health care coverage. This initiative combnied advocacy coalitions in seven states, including California, to raise awareness of the importance of expanding health insurance coverage to improve health outcomes for children.

In May 2015, after more than 15 years of advocacy work, the final piece in the California children’s health care puzzle fell into place with the expansion of Medi-Cal eligibility to all children, regardless of immigration status.

What’s the connection? Supporting advocacy is a powerful tool in helping a charitable foundation achieve its goals.

SCG members are invited to join a livestream webinar of this lively panel discussion with advocacy leaders, both funders and grantees, as we explore lessons from California child health care advocacy efforts and how they might help you reach your goals. We’ll also make time to think about the logistics of how foundations make advocacy work and how they talk about it with their boards.

Speakers:

  • Richard Figueroa, Director of Health and Human Services, The California Endowment
  • Kristen Golden Testa, Director, California Health Program, Children’s Partnership
  • Alex M. Johnson, Executive Director, Children's Defense Fund - California
  • Adam Kruggel, Director of Organizing, PICO CA
  • Michael Odeh, Associate Director, Health, Children Now
  • Christopher Perrone, Director of Improving Access, California HealthCare Foundation
  • Liane Wong, Moderator, Program Officer, Health, The David and Lucile Packard Foundation

We hope you will be able to join this special livestream webinar event!
