SCG is proud to partner with L.A. Works for their annual Martin Luther King, Jr. Day of Service, the nation’s largest day of community service. This national holiday empowers individuals, strengthens communities, and creates solutions to social problems, moving us closer to Dr. King’s vision of a "beloved community."

We hope you will join us on January 20th to help to transform Hillcrest Drive Elementary School, a Title I Los Angeles Unified School in South Los Angeles, where more than 40 percent of students come from low income families.

On this year’s Day of Service, more than 1,000 corporate and community volunteers will help to “green” Hillcrest. By adding new outdoor classroom space, expanding the community garden, planting, and painting murals, we will transform the school into a welcoming, comfortable environment for children.

After a light breakfast and some lively Zumba to warm up, volunteers will be welcomed by elected officials and special members of the community. We will be led in small teams by volunteer leaders for our hands-on projects—where our hands will certainly get a little dirty!

At lunchtime, our teams will join back together for the project wrap-up and a light meal. Check out this video from last year’s Day of Service to see why you’ll want to make this a “day on, not off” day of service!

Who May Attend: The Day of Service is open to all interested volunteers. When registering, please notify L.A. Works you are an SCG member.
