A complete and accurate census count is necessary to ensure our county receives the federal and state funding we are entitled to, our communities have the congressional representation they deserve and our programs accurately reflect the diversity and cultural makeup of our residents. Many local communities are considered “Hard-to-Count” due to linguistic isolation, housing insecurity and distrust of the government. Funders can support efforts to ensure a complete count.
Please join us to hear from local experts and participate in a discussion on the role that Ventura County and Santa Barbara funders can play in supporting local efforts to reach “Hard-to-Count” communities.
Speakers include:
- Ely Flores, California Director of Civic Engagement for the NALEO Educational Fund will share their report and findings on messaging focus groups, as well as planning and goals for the region and state.
- Karla Mercado, Manager for Public Policy and Philanthropy California at Southern California Grantmakers (SCG) will share SCG’s commitment to the census and how they are working to ensure that everyone counts.
- Vanessa Bechtel, President and CEO of the Ventura County Community Foundation will elaborate on the importance of an accurate census in our region and the role the Community Foundation is taking.
