Please join us for an intimate discussion about the findings of the Los Angeles and Orange County Veterans Surveys as well as opportunities for funders to take collection action. We’ll explore how innovations are taking shape here that are being watched at the national level, and how these factors might inform next steps for our group.

Program presenters:

  • Dr. Anthony Hassan, retired US Air Force; Director, USC School of Military Social Work; Director, USC Center for Innovation and Research on Veterans & Military Families; and Veteran, Operation Iraqi Freedom
  • Nathan Graeser, MDiv, MSW, Coordinator, LA Veterans Collaborative; Chaplain, CA National Guard.

Last September, the USC Center for Innovation and Research on Veterans & Military Families released The State of the American Veteran: The Los Angeles County Veterans Study, the first comprehensive study assessing the opportunities and challenges in serving the region’s military community. In February, a follow up Orange County Study was released.

According to the findings, more than two-thirds of all surveyed veterans reported difficulties adjusting to civilian life. Other key findings include: nearly eight in ten veterans left the military without a job, about 40 percent left the military unsure of where they would be living, and many left active duty with untreated physical and mental health issues.

Even if you have read or been to presentations about the LA Veterans Survey before, you won’t want to miss this critical meeting. We'll engage in facilitated discussion led by veterans expert and SCG consultant Nancy Berglass about how our learnings might inform philanthropic collective action. We highly encourage current veterans funders and interested funders to attend.
