SCG members are invited to join a special briefing on the innovative work of San Fernando Valley nonprofits, as well as needs and opportunities for increased philanthropic support in the Valley.

We’ll hear from local nonprofits, funders, and community leaders about their approach to community engagement and how they connect with the larger environment of the San Fernando Valley.

  • Bill Allen, CEO of the Los Angeles Economic Development Corporation
  • Dr. Thomas E. Backer, Executive Director, Valley Nonprofit Resources
  • Dr. Joan Maltese, CEO of the Child Development Institute, which is creating partnerships for services to children 0-5 with special needs (with Tarzana Providence Medical Center and the communities of Canoga Park and Reseda)
  • Alexis Marion, Program Officer with the Valley-based Frieda C. Fox Family Foundation
  • Susan Ng, CEO of MEND, who will discuss her agency’s multi-service model for families and individuals in poverty
  • Kim Roth, CEO, Strength United

The session is part of a larger coalition working to increase philanthropic engagement in the San Fernando Valley. The group includes CSUN Valley Nonprofit Resources Executive Director Dr. Thomas Backer, Irvine Foundation trustee Kafi Blumenfield, CSUN Foundation President Dr. Robert Gunsalus, Valley Presbyterian Hospital President Pegi Matsuda, and SCG.
