In San Bernardino and Riverside Counties, the education system is a key driver of success for youth preparing to enter the workforce and participate in civic life.
And while Inland Southern California has many strong systems and a full education infrastructure in place, the region faces many challenges when it comes to educating its children: growth and demographic changes; high poverty levels; and educational attainment rates that fall far below the state median.
Fortunately, local leadership is serious about changing the trajectory for students, producing creative strategies and improving academic outcomes.
In this program, we'll hear about possible opportunities and avenues for philanthropic investment from experts and leaders in the field:
- Paul Granillo from Inland Empire Economic Partnership will share about an exciting two-county effort called Growing Inland Achievement.
- Leslie Sorensen with the Ontario-Montclair Unified School District will discuss the place-based Promise Scholars program, which encourages a college-going culture in this low-income community.
- Sheila Thornton from the Coachella Valley Economic Partnership for Workforce Excellence will share their work to align educational attainment with economic development goals.
We'll also hear from members of the Funders Alliance of San Bernardino & Riverside Counties about current investments and potential funding opportunities.
Join your peers to learn about the current state of education in the Inland Empire by exploring new education data, challenges facing local initiatives, and examples of innovative models to align disparate systems.
This session is designed for funders who are interested in education reform generally, and in learning more about the education landscape in the Inland Southern California region.
