SCG is pleased to partner with Town Hall Los Angeles on a special conversation with City Controller Ron Galperin on how open data is bringing transparency and accountability to City Hall. 

As City Controller, Ron Galperin is the chief auditor and accounting officer of the City of Los Angeles. It is his responsibility to oversee how the city collects its revenues, manages its contracts and expenses and protects the city from fraud and abuses. Los Angeles is looking at budget deficits in excess of $200 million for at least the next three years. Pension costs now account for 20% of the city’s expenses. The DWP union trusts have received $40 million in taxpayer dollars that they refuse to account for. And according to the recently released Los Angeles 2020 Commission report, Los Angeles has not added a single new job in twenty years. 

Given Galperin’s campaign objectives of creating jobs, implementing cost savings strategies, negotiating more cost effective contracts and addressing waste and fraud in the city budget, what has been achieved in his first year in office? The Honorable Ron Galperin will reflect on his first year in office and his work to ensure that Angelenos get a good return on their tax dollars with KCET News Anchor Val Zavala.
