"I have been instrumentally involved in the Los Angeles Promise Neighborhood for the past three years. It was a historic day for Los Angeles when the Youth Policy Institute was awarded the $30 million implementation grant in December. Promise Neighborhoods is a vital initiative for our City and will be a key component of my community transformation strategy."
-Mayor-elect Eric Garcetti

On behalf of LA n Sync, Southern California Grantmakers, Deputy Mayor Aileen Adams and distinguished co-hosts, you are invited to participate in a luncheon briefing on the Los Angeles Promise Neighborhood to learn more about how this innovative public/private partnership will make lasting changes in Los Angeles.

The briefing will feature:

  • John Deasy, Superintendent, Los Angeles Unified School District
  • Tim Robbins, The Actors’ Gang
  • Dixon Slingerland, Executive Director, Youth Policy Institute

Youth Policy Institute (YPI) was awarded a $30 million grant from the U.S. Department of Education  in December 2012, one of only seven awards nationwide and the highest scoring application in the country, to build on its successful cradle-to-college-and-career, place-based model, in the communities of Pacoima and Hollywood.

Participants will learn about the 19 neighborhood schools that will be transformed through Promise Neighborhood as well as the 18,000 neighborhood youth who will be part of this comprehensive effort to break the inter-generational cycle of poverty.
