Job Description: 

The Rosalinde and Arthur Gilbert Foundation is seeking a full-time Accounting Manager to manage the Foundation’s accounting and financial reporting processes. The position reports directly to the Foundation’s Trustees. You will be based in our Santa Monica offices and be part of a team that is committed to impactful philanthropic work as well as precise and transparent financial reporting. You will be accounting for various aspects of our activities such as billings and collections of monthly rental income, our diverse investment portfolio, approved grants and related payables, operational payables, monthly forecasts and other Foundation activities. You will also work with our outside accountants on preparing for the annual audit and preparation of the tax returns. Key Responsibilities

  • Maintaining accurate accrual based books and records on a monthly basis
  • Process monthly rental income billings
  • Monthly reconciliations of broker accounts for investments
  • Monthly reconciliations of partnership investment accounts
  • Monthly reconciliations of private equity investments
  • Monthly reconciliations of all operating cash accounts
  • Monthly financial packages
  • Tracking and reconciling grants payable
  • Managing accounts payable and tenants receivable
  • Collaborating with our Real Estate Manager on tenant issues and projects
  • Reporting to the Foundation’s Trustees
  • Preparation of annual Form 1099
     

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or equivalent major
  • 7+ years of related experience required
  • Experience in real estate preferred
  • Experience with private foundation or nonprofit accounting preferred
  • Significant understanding of accrual accounting and maintaining books on a GAAP basis
  • Ability to track fair market value for the investments portfolio (with oversight from our team)
  • Ability to take full ownership of the Foundation’s books and records (with guidance from our team)
  • Excellent computer skills and proficiency in Excel
  • Excellent organizational skills
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Attention to detail
