What you will be doing in this role:
As a member of the Community Engagement team, the Associate Program Officer (APO) will further the work of the Community Benefit Giving Office (CBGO), which is designed to centralize all community benefit giving for Cedars-Sinai and maximize its impact across Los Angeles.

The Associate Program Officer reports to the Director. S/he will primarily support the work of Cedars-Sinai’s philanthropic civic engagement portfolio. Under the guidance of the Director, s/he oversees sponsorships and facilitates civic engagement grant requests from intake and evaluation to execution and tracking. The APO garners input from relevant internal partners and assesses historical giving to generate recommendations and obtain appropriate approvals. They ensure sponsorship and grant alignment with the Medical Center’s mission, Community Health Needs Assessment (CHNA) and the CBGO’s overall strategies and goals.

The Associate Program Officer conducts ongoing analysis of sponsorship and grant expenditures to ensure budgetary compliance and alignment with Community Benefit priorities and senior leadership direction. S/he furnishes the Director with reports. S/he conducts custom analysis, as requested, for senior leadership, including the President/CEO and Board of Directors. The APO is tasked with implementing, coordinating and administering a portfolio of Cedars-Sinai CBGO’s existing grant programs. S/he serves in a supporting role in the development of new grantmaking programs and/or initiatives. The APO oversees key processes to ensure effective and efficient maintenance of Cedars-Sinai’s giving. S/he is to work closely with the Grants Manager for ensuring compliance for grantees (monitoring grant period process, and year by year progress). The APO also conducts analysis and develops presentations at the direction of the Director. S/he manages relationships with key grantees and supports the office during intake of key requests from prospective grantees.

The successful candidate will possess the ability to multitask on variety of projects and handle competing pressures well. S/he will be comfortable with the ambiguity inherent in grantmaking, intellectually curious, and willing and able to offer constructive recommendations. The APO has good analytical skills, independent judgment, and a track record of executing high-caliber work, while exhibiting diplomacy and a collaborative spirit. Due to the high volume of requests received by the CBGO, attention to detail and ability to prioritize multiple projects is essential. The Associate Program Officer works with many departments across Cedars-Sinai as well as organizations supported by the Medical Center. S/he also makes proactive recommendations to improve process efficiency within the office.



  • Minimum educational requirement for this position is a High School Diploma/GED. Bachelors Degree or two years of college education (AA degree) is preferred.
  • A minimum of 4 years work-related or commensurate non-profit experience is required. Prior experience with corporate sponsorships and/or grantmaking a plus.
