Job Description: 

The Grants Manager will fulfill a new position, which will focus on managing grants through their lifecycle and ensure proper due diligence for grants awarded to Direct Relief’s health care partners for a variety of programmatic initiatives. The candidate should have experience in fast-paced work environments, have grant-making experience, grant-making software expertise, be detail focused, work effectively across multiple teams, and have strong writing skills. This new position will administer all Direct Relief’s granting making efforts, particularly after emergencies, and will report to the Finance Department. 


  • Manage work flow process for all types of Direct Relief’s grants, ensuring timeliness and accuracy of all relevant data fields 
  • Implement and maintain grants management software; master and manage software to meet requirements to ensure data integrity, including interfaces with general ledger; ensure other relevant staff are properly trained 
  • Develop, maintain, and ensure proper grants management procedures are in place and consistently followed, including but not limited to due diligence procedures, grant reporting, award letters, grant agreements, payment tracking, and procedures to ensure availability of funds 
  • Oversee nonstandard grant transactions and anomalies related to grantmaking 
  • Coordinate and collaborate with internal teams, including the Finance/Accounting, Programs, Research and Analytics, Information Technology, Development, Compliance, and Communications departments 
  • Be the primary contact for donor and grantee relations 
  • Review grant check proof reports, grant checks, and grantee award letters 
  • Oversee and ensure all multi-year grants are entered, tracked, and awarded appropriately 
  • Assist with grant reporting, monitoring, and analysis for programmatic and communication purposes 
  • Assist with communication efforts both internally and externally 
  • Other duties as assigned 


Core Competencies and Qualifications: 

  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field 
  • Computer skills including Microsoft Office Suite 
  • Experience with grants management software platforms, such as WizeHive, CyberGrants, etc. 
  • Mathematical literacy and mastery of basic accounting concepts 
  • Strong skills managing processes, and timelines, and people 
  • Proven ability to track and manage several projects and processes simultaneously 
  • Highly effective oral and written communicator with the ability to adapt to a wide range of communication styles 
  • High level of demonstrated accuracy 
  • Exceptionally motivated, organized and detail-oriented; team player with a willingness to help where required 
  • Ability to work both under supervision and independently 
  • High degree of responsiveness 
  • Professionalism and discretion
