Job Description: 

RespectAbility is seeking a L.A. Jewish Development Advisor to support RespectAbility’s Jewish work by connecting us to results-driven philanthropists and foundations within the Jewish community of Los Angeles and beyond, to support and enhance our work fighting stigmas and advancing opportunities to fully include people with disabilities as participants and leaders in the Los Angeles Jewish community.

RespectAbility’s Jewish department is based in Los Angeles, and promotes inclusion within the Jewish community, not only improving access, but also identifying talented Jews with disabilities, especially in Los Angeles, connecting them to jobs and volunteer opportunities with synagogues and Jewish organizations. 



RespectAbility’s Jewish Development Advisor will be an approximately 15 hour per week position and will report jointly to the Director of California and Jewish Leadership and the Manager of Inclusive Philanthropy and Development to identify potential individual and institutional Jewish funders to support our work. This position also will help to strategically cultivate those relationships.

The Advisor also mentors and guides a team of Jewish Development Fellows, Jews with disabilities who are learning the field of development through doing, from helping with basic research to developing profiles, as requested by the Advisor. Role does not include Fellow management, which will be provided by other staff.

The two ultimate goals of the position are to identify leads to sustain and grow the half-million-dollar budget of our Jewish Department, while passing along your development experience to Jews with disabilities seeking to enter the field.

While the position will work remotely at least for the duration of the pandemic, this position is based out of Los Angeles, California.



  • Identify and cultivate key development leads in the Jewish Community in Los Angeles and beyond.
  • Work with the Los Angeles and national teams to develop strategies to engage and connect with these people and/or groups.
  • In concert with the National Leadership Program Director and the Los Angeles team, mentor and guide the Jewish Development Fellows who are assisting with this development work.
  • Work closely with grant writing advisors and consultants.
  • Other tasks as appropriate.



  • Proven fundraising experience in the Jewish community.
  • Connection to the L.A. Jewish community and passion for disability inclusion.
  • Strong commitment to the mission and vision of the organization, including diversity, equity and opportunity for people of all backgrounds and abilities.
  • Substantial experience with both the cultivation of individual donors (especially high net worth individual donors), and the writing of grants to institutional donors. (While the Advisor will not likely be doing much drafting, it is important to have substantial experience in the process to be able to work with the team doing the writing.)
  • Talented, detail oriented, highly motivated and honest professional with proven fundraising success.
  • Excellent writing and communications skills including grammar and spelling.
  • Ability and willingness to work flexibly in a fast-paced, fast-growing, dynamic nonprofit environment.
  • Team player who is upbeat and excited to work in a growing and mission-driven organization.
