JMC seeks a Program Advisor to carry out and support client grant making and initiatives. This is a multi-faceted position working across a wide range of client foundations and focus areas.   S/he will use research, analytical, problem-solving, and written and oral communication skills to research various client funding areas, obtain a strong base of knowledge in defined fields of interest, develop philanthropic strategies, analyze applicant organizations, and facilitate grant making and grantee monitoring and evaluation.



In concert with JMC Senior Leadership, the Program Advisor will:

  • Draft grant proposal summaries, prepare meeting dockets and, as needed, present to clients.
  • Prepare grant making documents including grant agreements and reporting guidelines.
  • Conduct complete due diligence on organizations applying for grants, including proposal review, high-level financial analysis, follow-up calls, and site visits as needed. 
  • Monitor performance and impact measurement, and draft summary reports for clients.
  • Conduct research, develop materials, and present information to advance client understanding on a particular issue or organization.
  • Identify, develop and/or support client initiatives or special funding projects.
  • Research and provide information on a wide variety of topics; producing reports and high-level correspondence with an exceptional attention to detail.
  • Work closely with JMC staff and partners to develop individualized client giving strategies.
  • Work in a team setting for creative thought sessions and work management coordination.
  • Work independently on projects and with clients as needed. 
  • Research potential grantee organizations and work with staff to identify funding opportunities.
  • Establish relationships with philanthropic and nonprofit peers to keep informed on relevant sector programming and trends.
  • Assist with other activities and tasks as needed to support JMC, its clients and their grant making and educational activities.

  • Exemplary writing skills, with the ability to produce reports and high level correspondence with exceptional attention to detail and delivering high quality work.
  • Demonstrated financial analysis skills, including the ability to analyze audited financials, balance sheets, and business plans of nonprofit organizations.
  • Excellent research, analytical and reasoning skills.
  • Excellent project management skills.
  • Expertise in Microsoft Office Suite and high level computer skills required.  JMC has a small staff and all programmatic staff contribute to administrative operations as well.
  • Bachelor's degree required, Master's degree preferred.
  • Three years of nonprofit experience desirable, ideally including grant making.
  • Experience in the development, implementation and evaluation of strategies to affect change.
  • Experience working collaboratively across the nonprofit, private, and public sectors.
