Job Description: 

JMC Philanthropic Advisors is a Santa Monica-based boutique consulting firm that provides long-term management and organizational development services for family foundations, corporate giving programs and philanthropic individuals. Our mission is to translate each client’s passion for giving into an effective strategy for change, according to the donor’s values and priorities. 

JMC seeks a Program Associate to carry out and support client grant making and initiatives. S/he will use research, analytical, problem-solving and written and oral communication skills to research various client funding areas, obtain a strong base of knowledge in defined fields of interest and facilitate the grant making and evaluation processes within these focus areas. 

In concert with JMC Senior Leadership, the Program Associate will:

  • Conduct research, develop written materials and present information to advance client understanding on a particular issue or organization.
  • Identify funding opportunities and work with key individuals at prospective grantee organizations to solicit applications for funding.
  • Define and monitor grants for accountability and impact measurement.
  • Support development of special funding initiatives.

 

KEY ROLES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Write summaries of grant proposals and mid-term and final reports and, as appropriate, present to clients.
  • Conduct complete due diligence on organizations applying for grants, including reviewing proposals, financial analysis, follow-up calls and site visits as needed. 
  • Establish relationships with relevant community organizations and stay informed regarding nonprofit programming and sector trends.
  • Work closely with JMC staff and partners to develop individualized client giving strategies.
  • Work in a team setting that encourages thought partnership and promotes effective project coordination.
  • Work independently on projects and with clients as appropriate. 
  • Help develop and/or fine-tune grant making documents and processes.
  • When appropriate, support Senior client managers with the following:
  1. Manage and maintain yearly calendar of deadlines and tasks
  2. Follow-up on client interests
  3. Coordinate meetings and setting agendas
  4. Organize sits visits
  5. Manage ongoing grants and initiate new grants
  • Assist with other tasks or activities as needed to support JMC, its clients and their grant making activities.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree required, Master's degree preferred.
  • Previous grant making experience preferred.
  • Experience working collaboratively across the nonprofit, private and public sectors.
  • Experience in the development, implementation and evaluation of strategies to affect change preferred.
  • Financial analysis skills preferred, including the ability to analyze audited financials, balance sheets and business plans of nonprofit organizations.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and general computer savvy required.
