Job Description: 

The Program Associate will provide administrative support to the Director, Homeless Initiatives and the Director, Public Affairs as well as helping to organize and coordinate key stakeholders for United Way’s movement to end homelessness across Los Angeles County.

  • Lead administrative coordination for United Way’s efforts to end homelessness (e.g., Funders Collaborative, Regional Homeless Advisory Council, Policy Team, Partners Team, Homelessness Policy Research Institute, and Movement meetings). Work with Coordinators to ensure smooth execution of the following:
    • Scheduling
    • Security clearances
    • Catering
    • Room setup and breakdown
    • Material preparation and distribution
    • Track and ensure completion of invoices, contracts, and purchasing
    • Consolidate collection of timesheets and expense reports
    • Route requests and contact requests to remainder of Home For Good team
    • Note-taking (as needed)
  • Manage production of special Homeless Initiative meetings (i.e., celebrations, recognition events, strategy meetings) 
  • Serve as primary point of contact for referral assistance to those individuals experiencing homelessness who contact UWGLA offices
  • Support the Director, Homeless Initiatives and Director, Public Affairs in managing calendars, expense reports, making travel, meeting and event arrangements, preparing reports and presentations, research and information gathering, and training other support team members
  • Support outreach to community-based organizations to be involved in Yes to Housing! and the Movement building work, with an emphasis on faith-based organizations
    • Present and share information to mobilize organizations
    • Lead meetings and follow-up with organizations to coordinate and integrate efforts
  • Work collaboratively with Development & Engagement and Marketing & Communications teams to articulate the value of this work and support the development of meaningful engagement opportunities for donors, general public, etc.
  • Other duties and responsibilities as assigned.



  • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent work experience in the areas of administrative and coordination support preferred
  • Working knowledge of root causes and solutions to homelessness preferred
  • Should possess strong written and verbal communication skills, competent follow up skills, as well as the ability to arrange data
  • Must be able to exercise initiative, independent good judgment, flexibility, discretion, and solid decision-making
  • Must be able to successfully manage multiple priorities and demonstrate confidence working with diverse stakeholders, including nonprofit, public sector, corporate, faith-based, and philanthropic stakeholders
  • Excellent prioritization, project management, and critical thinking skills, with a strong sense of focus and strong attention to detail
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to build relationships with stakeholders, including team members, board members, external partners, and donors
  • Proactive and self-motivated to execute on responsibilities
  • Positive, can-do attitude with ability to hit the ground running
  • Must thrive under pressure and be able to accept constructive feedback
  • Willing to work flexible hours as needed to support department priorities and events
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook, and PowerPoint) is essential; experience using Adobe Creative Cloud, Microsoft CRM, or comparable programs is a plus
