Job Description: 


Under the general supervision of the Senior Program Officer, Economic Mobility, the Program Coordinator, Economic Mobility will support implementation of key economic mobility initiatives and programs, including but not limited the Earned Income Tax Credit/VITA, Cal Savers, Affordable Broadband Services.  Act as a liaison between United Way and its corporate and community-based partners for the purpose of spreading awareness about and expanding access to income supports through these programs.  This role is a critical component of our efforts to create pathways to financial stability and prosperity for low-income families in Los Angeles.  The Program Coordinator will represent United Way in the community and create and support opportunities for Angelenos to engage with our work.



  • Implement the core functions and activities of UWGLA’s current asset building and income support programs: EITC, CalSavers and Affordable Broadband Services
  • Develop and implement outreach plans for a variety and diverse group of stakeholders, including community groups and workplaces
  • Provide general support, as needed, for new or emerging additional economic mobility programs
  • Support the Marketing & Communications team by creating public education and information materials, presentations and displays – including contributing to United Way’s newsletters, media/new media outreach and website content about the economic mobility programs
  • Collaborate with United Way partners to ensure alignment and consistency in messaging around programs
  • Working closely with UWGLA’s Engagement Team, assist with recruiting, training, and placing corporate volunteers in asset building engagement opportunities
  • Represent the organization before variety of external audiences through writing and public speaking, including nonprofits, corporations and foundations
  • Respond to related public and community inquiries related to UWGLA’s economic mobility programs
  • Collect, maintain, and prepare written reports about outreach activities and progress towards assigned goals
  • Support implementation of the Community Impact Team’s annual goals and the organization’s strategic plan. Participate in cross-departmental and organizational planning and volunteer efforts as needed
  • Other duties and responsibilities as assigned



  • Bachelor’s degree required, Master’s Degree in nonprofit management, social work, or public policy/administration, or related field a plus
  • Minimum 2 years work experience with related experience in nonprofit service delivery, community organizing or policy work preferred
  • Experience working on programs serving low-income families preferred
  • Strategic and creative thinker, with a passion for United Way’s mission for addressing poverty in Los Angeles County.
  • Working knowledge of challenges and solutions related to poverty
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively across all organizational levels and to partner and work in teams, within a diverse environment
  • Must be able to exercise initiative, independent good judgment, flexibility, discretion, and solid decision making
  • Should possess strong interpersonal skills, written, and verbal communication skills, as well as the ability to persuade small and large groups alike. Strong comfort with public speaking and ability to deliver presentations in group settings.
  • Must be able to prioritize work, meet specific deadlines, and make appropriate adjustments to changing circumstances as necessary
  • Positive, can-do attitude with ability to hit the ground running
  • Must thrive under pressure and be able to accept constructive feedback
  • Willing to work flexible hours as needed to support department priorities and events
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Outlook, Excel and PowerPoint) is essential
