Job Description: 

Under the general direction and guidance of the Senior Manager, Homeless Systems Change, the Program Coordinator, Homelessness Initiatives will be responsible for critical aspects of Home For Good, the initiative to create and sustain an end to homelessness among older adults and seniors in LA County. Home For Good is the largest non-governmental agent working on the issue of homelessness in LA County, a driving force and backbone in creating systematic change that brings more people inside again. 

 

The Program Coordinator will work to organize and execute on a comprehensive strategy to quickly end older adult and senior homelessness in LA County - with particular attention on ensuring homelessness among older Black residents is extremely rare, brief, and non-recurring.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

 

·        Drive improved performance in our homeless service delivery system for older adults/seniors by project managing the development and implementation of a roadmap for ending homelessness among older adults/seniors to achieve the following goals:

    1) a meaningful reduction in homelessness among older adults/seniors, particularly among older Black people experiencing homelessness,

    2) increased health insurance coverage and benefits enrollment among the older adult/senior population experiencing homelessness, and

    3) better health indicators among older adults experiencing homelessness

·        Help ensure impact of Home For Good’s high level stakeholder tables by coordinating preparation and follow-up for stakeholder engagement meetings (virtual or in-person)

·        Act as Home For Good’s primary liaison to key public agencies in the aging services space (e.g., LA County WDACS) working with program staff to suggest and improve policies that are critical to improving performance measures and ending homelessness among senior adults

·        Cultivate necessary relationships with staff at leading service providers, public agency staff, and community stakeholders to understand the context of policy recommendations and identify new hurdles and opportunities to the achievement of our strategic planning goals

·        Collaborate with United Way’s Development & Engagement and Marketing & Communications Teams to provide creative engagement opportunities for additional stakeholders to participate in the regional efforts to end homelessness among older adults/seniors

·        Support United Way’s effort to secure greater resources for community impact via meaningful real-time impact statistics and stories at the end of each quarter from work with key regions and agencies

·        Participate in grant writing training and leverage that training to support elements of grant writing that benefits the long-term sustainability of the Home For Good team and drives community impact

·        Other duties and responsibilities as assigned

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

    • Minimum 3 years work experience required; related experience in service delivery, systems change, or policy work preferred
    • High School graduation required; Bachelor’s degree preferred
    • Expertise and background in policy, continuous improvement, and systems change strategies preferred
    • Working knowledge of the root causes of and solutions to homelessness
    • Understands and values racial equity as an organizational operating principle and is committed to continued learning on issues related to race, equity, diversity, and inclusion
    • Working knowledge of the issues faced by older adults and seniors as they age, particularly strengths and challenges relevant to aging within communities of color
    • Must have excellent relationship building skills, strong organization, and follow up skills
    • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with all organizational levels within a diverse and virtual environment
    • Must be able to exercise initiative, independent good judgment, flexibility, discretion, and solid decision- making
    • Must be able to utilize creative strategies and virtual technology to engage stakeholders and maintain effective working relationship with key stakeholders
    • Should possess strong interpersonal skills, written, and verbal communication skills, as well as the ability to persuade small and large groups alike
    • Must be able to successfully consolidate competing priorities from stakeholders toward a singular goal
    • Must be able to prioritize work, meet specific deadlines, and make appropriate adjustments to changing circumstances as necessary
    • Proactive and self-motivated to execute on responsibilities
    • Positive, can-do attitude with ability to hit the ground running
    • Must thrive under pressure and be able to accept constructive feedback
    • Willing to work flexible hours as needed to support department priorities and events
    • Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Outlook, Excel, and PowerPoint) is essential; experience using Adobe Creative Cloud, Microsoft CRM, or comparable programs is a plus
    • Proficiency with virtual engagement platforms like Zoom and Microsoft Teams is strongly recommended

YEAR ONE SUCCESS LOOKS LIKE:

    • Successfully organizing, drafting, editing, and tracking the creation of contracts and grant agreements through the execution and closeout process with consultants, technical assistance providers, and targeted grantees
    • Planning, scheduling, and organizing safe stakeholder engagement meetings and processes that facilitates the successful creation and release of a system-level strategic roadmap for unaccompanied seniors experiencing or at risk of homelessness in LA County
    • Building and maintaining strong relationships with the network of stakeholders to ensure adequate coordination
    • Tracking the action items and deliverables to implement a sufficient management infrastructure that ensures efficient, effective, and accountable execution of the strategic roadmap for homeless seniors.
    • Partnering with internal and external stakeholders to communicate progress on project milestones and impacts.
