Job Description: 

Research, Tools & Training Associate/Manager sought to support RespectAbility’s work to advance education, employment and entrepreneurship opportunities and success for people with disabilities.



RespectAbility’s Research, Tools & Training Associate will assist in research and program development around best practices on key skills, employment and entrepreneurship policy and practices. They will help create useful materials and trainings for job seekers with disabilities, workforce professionals serving job seekers with disabilities, employers and other key stakeholders. They will assist in organizing webinars to facilitate knowledge translation, and preparing accessible materials. This is a role for someone with a background in research, excellent organizational skills, and experience in vocational rehabilitation and/or workforce development issues.

Founded in 2013, RespectAbility is looking to amplify our organizational impact, train more activists, leaders and professionals on best practices and provide useful materials to decision makers in the field. Salary, healthcare, vacation and other benefits provided. Position will work remotely at least for the duration of the pandemic. We prefer people located near our offices in Rockville, Maryland, or Los Angeles, California but will consider people in other locations. 



  • Working as a part of a team, will research, draft, edit and distribute new toolkits covering successful disability employment practices around self-employment, business ownership and telecommuting. These toolkits will involve assessing existing materials, determining material utility and drafting comprehensive documents to support decision makers in the field.
  • Research promising or emerging practices related to disability, diversity and inclusion efforts among leading employers in the nonprofit sector, the financial services arena, government employment and the world of federal contracting. This will include tracking key topics in the world of disability employment and identifying emerging trends.
  • Organize webinars or other online virtual learning opportunities to facilitate knowledge translation of documented best practices to leaders in the private, public and nonprofit sectors. Webinar management will include recruitment of subject matter experts, managing key attendees’ databases and day-of stage management of the learning opportunities.
  • Support staff in the development of future curriculum materials and facilitating virtual training opportunities as well as in the development of new toolkits, reports, and training materials reflecting key employment policy priorities and emerging labor force trends.
  • Assist in the development of future training materials for vocational rehabilitation professionals, paraprofessionals, and vocational rehabilitation students.
  • Assist in the development of materials to support job seekers with disabilities navigating choices around self-employment, business ownership or telecommuting opportunities.
  • Facilitate virtual training opportunities around self-employment, business ownership and telecommuting. Support outreach work with organizational leaders in the nonprofit sector, the financial services arena, and the world of federal contracting. Provide robust array of virtual training materials and support development of innovative virtual training materials around key organizational priorities.



  • Strong commitment to the mission and vision of the organization, including diversity, equity and opportunity for people of all backgrounds and abilities.
  • Commitment to disability issues as well as a strong interest in issues of intersectionality and other marginalized communities.
  • Ability to work with the Director of Community Outreach and Impact as well as the Policy and Practices Director to identify, research and amplify promising practices –especially around self-employment, business ownership and telecommuting opportunities.
  • Talented, detail oriented, highly motivated and honest professional with proven fundraising success.
  • Excellent writing and communications skills including grammar and spelling.
  • Minimum of two years in the areas of vocational rehabilitation/workforce development/human resource/disability services experience required.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite required. Proficiency with the accessible design of office documents preferred. This proficiency can be gained with free trainings available on the RespectAbility website.
  • Excellent internet research skills, including philanthropy sites, news sites, public records searching, at a minimum.
  • Ability and willingness to work flexibly in a fast-paced, fast-growing, dynamic nonprofit environment.
  • Team player who is upbeat and excited to work in a growing and mission-driven organization.
