Senior Associate

Senior Associate
Application Deadline:
Friday, August 30, 2019
Job Description:

Senior Associate Role Description

As someone looking for the next opportunity in their career, you’re looking for three things: the opportunity for personal and professional growth, the ability to make a significant positive impact on your company and the world around you, and the possibility of doing both with other passionate, caring and values-driven collaborators.

We’re Blue Garnet, and we’re offering you the opportunity to do it all.

Blue Garnet is a social impact consulting firm consistently recognized as a Best for the World Honoree among fellow certified B Corporations. We offer expertise in what it takes to envision and deliver lasting social impact sustainably. For 17 years (and counting), we have worked exclusively with organizations that pursue lasting social impact, tackling their toughest issues of strategy, performance, results and change. As a result, our work is not incremental. It’s transformational.

We are looking for a new Senior Associate to join our team, and we’re hoping that’s you.

Senior Associate

As our new Senior Associate, your main goal will be to take a leading role in helping to understand, clearly structure and creatively address the issues of our clients. We want someone who can see the larger picture and how the pieces fit together, while taking a rigorous approach to making a big vision real and delivering impact in a lasting and sustainable way.

Our team members are at their best in a continuous learning, analytical and highly collaborative environment. As creative problem solvers, we put structure to the ambiguity of big questions being asked. The “pragmatic idealist” in us knows how to ground big ideas with (just enough) evidence-based decision making. We take learning seriously; you can tell in the way we geek out on what we learn, amongst ourselves and with our fellow social change agents.

You are a critical thinker who is also an exceptionally strong communicator and collaborator. You like data; but even more, you like data-informed decision making. Your aptitude for grasping key issues, distilling important and relevant findings, and conveying them to teammates and clients alike makes you highly effective and gel easily with the team. You want to master the consulting craft, and strive to become a trusted advisor to those we serve.

You are also the type of person who is purpose-driven, caring, and truly loves learning. Constantly growing and developing, you instinctively seek to learn with and about our clients and teammates, the challenges they face, and how you can help them solve those challenges.

As a leading social impact consulting firm in Los Angeles, working for Blue Garnet means working with some of the most well-known and well respected, influential leaders impacting Southern California, and occasionally beyond. This also means we’ll look to you to become a trusted part of our team. The quality of your work, your ownership of responsibilities, and your active, passionate contribution will be a critical part of our DNA and our success.

Practically speaking, you will:

Project work:

  • With guidance from firm partners, help clients identify and frame critical strategic issues, lead and conduct primary and secondary research that generates insight, weave multiple workstreams together, and drive toward creative and actionable solutions
  • Engage teammates to plan and facilitate complex discussions on strategic issues, balancing the nuances of group dynamics, diverse perspectives, and the need for flexibility while achieving planned objectives
  • Develop and help manage workplans and budget to achieve on-time execution of key deliverables
  • Support and help develop skills and effectiveness of other team members

Client relationship:

  • Working collaboratively with clients, build and maintain strong relationships
  • Support and facilitate client decision-making grounded in rigor and insight, balanced with understanding of organizational change and transformation

Firm contribution:

  • Make contributions to firm-building, including developing knowledge and insights to build firm’s expertise, know-how and presence, and helping proactively support and enhance a positive work culture
  • Engage in business development efforts

And finally, feed your soul!  You will be a meaningful part of the social impact sector in our community, doing relevant, impactful work

Who We’re Looking For

Specifically, we need someone who is:

  • Shares in our firm values and enjoys building culture
  • Resourceful, proactive and hungry to quickly contribute to firm’s success
  • Trustworthy, responsible and professional with sound business judgment
  • Skilled in project management across simultaneous projects
  • Instinctively a problem-solver, with strong penchant for working with others to draw insight and create output based on quantitative and qualitative input
  • Experienced, comfortable and capable of facilitating complex and fluid discussions
  • Able to communicate in simple, concise and meaningful ways – verbally, visually and in writing
  • Deeply collaborative, team oriented, and thrives in bringing the best out of others
  • Fun-loving, energetic, flexible, with a sense of humor
  • Shown to be committed to social change; familiar with the business of social impact consulting
  • Aiming to work full-time and mostly in Southern California
  • Holds relevant experiences, via work at leading strategy consulting firm, 2+ years managing project-based work, and/or graduate degree in relevant field

Working at Blue Garnet

Joining our team means the opportunity to pursue social change and professional goals as part of a high performing team, while leading a meaningfully balanced lifestyle. The Senior Associate position is a full-time, permanent role with a competitive compensation package (i.e., salary commensurate with experience and qualifications, plus benefits).

Working with us means being part of a dynamic, hard-working environment with a passionate, committed and fun-loving team. You will also work with a wide range of leaders and organizations that actively work toward creating positive social change, as well as the firm’s partners, who will help you develop your skills and experience as a consultant and social entrepreneur.
