Thursday, August 9, 2018

Southern California Disaster Resources for the Holy Fire

Our heartfelt thoughts go out to our members, partners, friends and everyone affected. We will keep this page updated with information that could be helpful in responding appropriately to these disasters.

As of August 15, the Holy Fire has impacted nearly 23,000 acres, destroyed 24 structures, damaged 18, and forced over 21,000 residents across Orange and Riverside counties to evacuate. Fortunately, approximately 70 percent of the fire is contained.  The expected full containment date is Tuesday August 21.

On August 9, 2018, Governor Brown declared a State of Emergency in Orange and Riverside Counties because of the Holy Fire.

By issuing a State of Emergency, the Governor has directed OES to provide expedited local government assistance as appropriate. This assistance includes expedited cleanup and response to infrastructure damaged by fires, implementation of additional protections against price gouging, and accelerated hiring of additional emergency personnel, among other provisions. You can read more about the provisions, here.

Orange County Organizations

Riverside County Organizations

When funding disaster relief, some foundations recommend you give to the organization, not the disaster. A general operating support gift allows the organization to respond to existing crisis and prepare for other ones. You can read more about disaster relief giving tips, here.
