Chad Franks, Principal at KPMG, discusses with SCG the company's corporate giving.

Tell us about your company’s CSR/philanthropy goals: At KPMG we are committed to education and lifelong learning as they are central to building strong communities and economies. Through our efforts, we foster the development of a diverse values-driven talent pipeline, both internally and externally. We empower individuals to advance in their education and career, from pre-k to the c-suite with the ambition of unlocking their potential and changing lives.

What are some of your recent success stories? In February, KPMG’s Energy practice is partnering with Warner Bros and Foley Lardner to do a solar panel installation at the Downtown Women’s Center through the local non-profit, GRID Alternatives.  The event is a unique opportunity to partner with our clients, to link our sustainability program with our existing support for DWC, and to engage our energy practice professionals in hands-on learning about solar installation.  Plus, we’ll provide significant cost savings to the DWC and help LA’s transition to a low-carbon economy. The firm also recently launched KPMG Spark®, an online bookkeeping service for nonprofits that helps support the efforts of smaller regional nonprofits.

What does being a community leader mean personally to you?  It means playing an active role in improving our city through the contribution of our time, talents and financial resources.

What is something your organization/you learned during your time in this role that you think others might find helpful? We’ve learned that the most effective and sustainable community programs are those where we partner closely with others and work hard at the start to establish trust between the organizations.

How has the SCG community helped you advance your work?  SCG provides a tremendous platform to learn more about the priorities of our peers and to identify opportunities for a more collective approach.  LA is leading in its efforts to advance the Sustainable Development Goals at a local level and we are proud to be a part.
