In response to the San Bernardino Mass Shooting

Thursday, December 3, 2015

Dear Colleagues,

It is with a heavy heart that I write to you following circumstances that have become far too commonplace, and which, this time, have struck at the heart of Southern California.
Yesterday 14 people were killed and 17 more were injured when assailants attacked a San Bernardino office building. The motive for the attack remains unclear, but the pain and heartbreak of this mass shooting have been felt across Southern California, the country, and around the world.
Our colleagues in the region are leading local efforts to raise funds for the victims and effected communities. You can visit Arrowhead United Way's Relief Fund page here to support those who have been impacted by the shooting.
We have also compiled resources for funders to learn more about best practices in disaster relief and emergency response philanthropy, which you can access here. Please check back with us regularly for updates and additional resources.
Today we mourn the victims and the loss suffered by their families. And in their memory, I hope we never view such senseless violence as the "new normal." We can—and must—do better. I take comfort in knowing that SCG members in San Bernardino and beyond are already working so hard to strengthen our communities. Now, more than ever, SCG is committed to supporting your work to make Southern California and the world a better place.
