Southern California Grantmakers Announces New Directors and Program Associate

Tuesday, June 25, 2013

Los Angeles, CA, June 25, 2013 -- Southern California Grantmakers (SCG), a regional association of philanthropic leaders working to support and advance effective grantmaking and drive innovative strategies for community problem solving, is pleased to announce two new Director appointments and a new Program Associate.

“I am delighted to announce our latest promotions and staff additions,” says Christine Essel, President of Southern California Grantmakers. “These latest appointments will enable SCG to continue building services that meet member needs, strengthen the organization, broaden our reach and create new ways to make SCG even more relevant to our membership and the community at large.”

This spring, Cara Underwood, who joined SCG two years ago as a Public Policy Manager leading the development of a diverse offering of programs, has been promoted to Director of Programs and Public Policy. Going forward, Underwood will continue to design and implement programs and events, while also leading SCG's policy engagement activities.

In addition, Amanda Byrd will join SCG as Director of Membership and Communications on July 8th. With 17 years of leadership experience in California-based nonprofits, Byrd has a strong background in capacity building, utilizing both relationships and technology to strengthen and grow organizations. Possessing extensive knowledge in foundation relations and nonprofit communications, she will spearhead development and implementation of SCG's membership services and direct the communications strategies that support the organization’s goals.

Also in July, SCG will welcome a new Program Associate, Annabelle Rosborough. Having previously worked with a variety of youth focused nonprofits in New York, Rosborough recently relocated to Los Angeles, where she has supported SCG’s programmatic and administrative work in a variety of roles. In her new position with SCG, Rosborough will assist in executing SCG programs and events, while also providing support for executive and board-related projects. Noting that Underwood, Byrd and Rosborough are filling essential roles envisioned by the SCG Board of Directors, Essel adds, “Their knowledge, experience and enthusiasm will enable our already dynamic team to meet our ambitious goals for both the immediate future and the long-term. And, with these positions filled, we will continue to strengthen the visibility, scope and impact of philanthropy in our region.”
