Southern California Leadership Network to Honor Chris Essel at SCLN 2016 Visionaries Awards

On December 8th, SCLN will celebrate dynamic leaders who drive change at the 2016 Visionaries Awards. We are pleased to honor Chris Essel, president of Southern California Grantmakers (SCG), as the Southern California Leader of the Year.

SCG is a regional association of philanthropic leaders whose mission is to support and advance effective, responsible philanthropy for the public good. Prior to joining SCG, Essel held leadership roles in government, corporate, philanthropic and nonprofit sectors, where she has shaped legislation and public and corporate policy. She has a passion for forging creative solutions to complex community challenges.
Essel has been named to numerous boards and commissions over the years, serving as chair of the California Film Commission, Los Angeles Community Redevelopment Agency, Hollywood Community Advisory Council, Alternative Living for the Aging and Central City Association. She also served as vice chair of the California Workforce Investment Board and FilmLA and was a member of the powerful Los Angeles World Airports Commission. Essel was recently named to The Nonprofit Times 2016 Power and Influence Top 50.
2016 Visionaries Awards honorees also include Congresswoman Karen Bass as Public Sector Official of the Year, and SCLN Graduate of the Year David Ambroz, executive director, Disney | ABC Television Group Corporate Citizenship and Social Responsibility and serves as the Los Angeles City Planning Commission president.
