This meeting focuses on Assembly Bill 5 (AB-5), which took effect on January 1, 2020. The new law makes it more difficult for employers to classify workers as independent contractors, instead of employees. Californians for the Arts breaks down the law, new classification rules, compliance options, exemptions that apply to artists and nonprofit arts and culture organizations, and potential amendments.
