Southern California Symposium: Executive Education in Social Innovation

The Southern California Symposium, the Price Center for Social Innovation’s executive education program, is an exceptional opportunity for learning, collaboration and professional growth over a short time frame. A concentrated and intense experience that will not wreak havoc on your calendar, the Symposium starts the third week of March and is finished by the first week of May. The time in between will prove unforgettable.

Lead by Symposium Director Roberto Suro and Director of Studies David Morse, each weekend will feature learning encounters in several formats, presenting different kinds of material. Dinner speakers, seminars, panel discussions, skill-building exercises and small group collaborations facilitated by faculty mentors will all be part of the mix. In addition, participants will work in teams on a capstone project that evaluates one of several long-term challenges facing Southern California and offers affirmative, actionable solutions.

Who Should Participate in the Southern California Symposium?
The Symposium is designed for social change agents from a variety of industries and sectors. Each cohort includes approximately 25 participants from public service, politics, business, the arts, philanthropy and nonprofit organizations, representing a variety of interests, geographies, talents and experiences.

What Will Participants Learn?
Participants will learn a variety of social innovation models, such as collective impact, impact investing, social enterprise, etc. that can help generate novel solutions to the region’s most pressing policy issues. A variety of USC faculty and social innovation practitioners will facilitate seminars and discussions on a variety of topics, including: immigration, healthcare, housing, transportation and others. Using social innovation tools, student teams will produce final capstone projects that conceptualize a novel, long-term and sustainable social innovation addressing some of the region’s most intractable social problems.

When Does the Symposium Take Place?
The Symposium takes place over four weekends in March and April 2019, with a final event on May 3rd.

Where Does the Symposium Take Place?
All weekend sessions, as well as the final dinner, take place on the USC campus.

What is the cost of the Symposium?
The cost of the Symposium is $5,000, which covers all registration fees, course materials, all meals and special evening events. The fee also includes invitations to continuing education seminars and events at the USC Price Center for Social Innovation. Fee reduction may be available.
