Description of Position

Southern California Grantmakers supports the Los Angeles Homeless Services Authority’s (LAHSA) application to the United States Department of Housing and Urban Development’s Youth Demonstration Program NOFA Grant. The Los Angeles Continuum of Care (LA CoC) HUD Youth Homelessness Demonstration Program (YHDP) NOFA 2016 Grant Application would increase funding levels to complement the collective work advanced by funders and service providers. SCG’s members have been core participants in the Home for Good Funders Collaborative, which provided instrumental support to the adoption of the County’s Homelessness Initiative. These same funders are resolved to work closely with Los Angeles County to end youth homelessness.

Background

On any given night in Los Angeles County, at least 3,540 youth experience homelessness, both sheltered and unsheltered. The LA CoC has been a lead partner to actively engage youth service providers and other continuums in the region to improve the coordinated community response to youth experiencing homelessness and housing instability. As referenced, the LA CoC and SCG’s members lead efforts in the region to end youth homelessness by expanding the Coordinated Entry System (CES) for Youth to all eight Los Angeles County Service Planning Areas.
