Our Equity Journey
The SCG team works toward becoming an anti-racist multicultural organization and building an equitable culture where leadership is shared, and wellness is prioritized. We are committed to thoughtfully incorporating an equity and social justice lens into every area of our work. This lens guides us in understanding our systems, their history, and how they impact specific groups and individuals. We believe that looking squarely at access to resources, power, and privilege is the only way to address the inequities that exist in our personal lives, communities, and country. We believe diversity, inclusion, and cultural agility are the outcomes of a more equitable and just society.
Equity Committee
As our team engages deeply in our equity journey, we recognize the need to continuously examine and adjust our internal practices and culture to advance equity and social justice. SCG’s Equity Committee was initiated to help lead and advance equity within the organization. The Committee is comprised of SCG staff members who have self-selected to participate in sparkling reflection and initiate change across the organization. The primary goal of the committee is to keep the momentum and conversations going following our internal 2017- 2018 racial justice training.
Culture Committee
SCG is committed to continuously engaging in thoughtful discussion and reflection to understand our current organizational culture and advance a desired future culture connected to our organizational values. Culture shows up in many ways, including norms around employee interaction and communication, expectations around engaging with stakeholders, and how SCG recognizes important moments or achievements. The Committee is made up of SCG staff members who have self-selected to participate in implementing relationship-building opportunities and processes for staff to build upon and advance our culture.
Disability Inclusion
SCG recognizes that ableism — the systemic stigma and discrimination against people with disabilities — is a core barrier to equity and inclusion. Our team seeks to create an inclusive and accessible learning environment during all of our virtual and in-person programs. As a proud participant of the Disability Inclusion Pledge, our organization is committed to embark on a learning journey, starting with preliminary disability inclusion action steps that will take them beyond the minimum legal requirements.
